The first volume - "The Age of Petipa" - is dedicated to the performances of ballets by Marius Petipa. 
The second volume - "After Petipa" - tells about the life of the master's choreographic heritage in the XX-XXI centuries.
It contains materials from the Directorate, the workshops and the assembly part of the Imperial Theaters, which today constitute the collection of the Museum of Theater and Musical Arts and the St. Petersburg Theater Library. These are sketches of costumes and scenery, posters, original stage costumes and staged photographs taken in the photographic studio of the imperial theaters.
The book contains original ballets by Petipa, including undoubted masterpieces - La Bayadère, Sleeping Beauty, Raymonda, as well as in the editions of Petipa himself - the creations of his predecessors: J. Perrot, J. Mazilier and A. Saint- Leona, which Petipa not only preserved, but also substantially updated in accordance with his own imagination.
The album includes articles by the theater critic Vadim Moiseevich Gaevsky, English researcher and curator of the ballet section of the Victoria and AlbertMuseum - Jane Pritchard, French theater critic - Martin Kahn, candidate of art history, associate professor of the ballet master's department at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet - Olga Ivanovna Rozanova.
